Sonospace welcomes you to the wild north Atlantic coast of Portugal where the rivers and mountains meet the ocean. A surfers paradise with beautiful beaches and lush green forests. Participate in our field recording retreat and experience these pristine natural landscapes first hand. Stay with us for 7 nights this May in a charming and spacious hill top country lodge. The accommodation has spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, a swimming pool, free wifi and a large garden. It is twenty minutes on foot from beautiful sandy beaches and tree lined rivers.

Sound Retreat Itinerary – May 11/18 – 2019 

Saturday – Check In from 14:00. Evening drinks and dinner at the lodge.

Sunday – Sound walk to an old Celtic settlement hidden in the forest. This area was home to many ancient hill top villages. The site is located in the mountain and forest behind the lodge.

Monday – Journey to the high up mountain rock pools and source of the river. Mini bus transport will be provided for this journey. This location is also an excellent wild swimming location. Countless natural pools make their way to the valley below.

Tuesday – Sound walk to wild Atlantic beaches with rock pools, dunes, ancient forts and woodland. 

Wednesday – Trip to the docklands and street market of Viana do Castelo.

Thursday – Journey to the border. We are situated a short train journey from the river Minho which forms the border with Spain.  At the town of Caminha we will take a ferry across the river to Spain to visit the mouth of the river and sample some local Spanish food.

Friday – Journey to the mountain weather station to see the wild horses.

Saturday – Final Breakfast and check-out.

 Other Information

Food – Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all included. Authentic Portuguese food will be served along with specialities from Spanish and South American cuisine. Breakfast and dinner will be served in the hostel and a picnic box will be made for each participant for each day of the programme. Vegetarians and vegans can be catered for also.

Guide – Harry Sumner is the director of Sonospace and he currently lives in the region’s capital, Viana do Castelo. He will be leading the activities throughout the week. He will be assisted by staff at the hostel and the team will strive to make your stay a fulfilling and enjoyable experience.


10 places are available. Prices vary due to the different accommodation options on offer. The price covers seven nights stay in the lodge with breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Transport costs to the field locations are also included. A non-refundable deposit of 50 euros is needed to confirm your reservation.
